The Czech Embassy has clarified that Nigerian students are not eligible to apply for the Czech Government Scholarship Programme for the 2027/2028 academic year.

In a statement issued on Monday, the embassy said Nigeria was not included among the countries whose citizens are eligible for the scholarship programme for the upcoming academic session.

The clarification followed the circulation of information online suggesting that Nigerian students could apply for the government-funded scholarship.

The embassy warned prospective applicants against relying on unofficial websites or other platforms publishing inaccurate information about the programme.

“We have seen some information circulating online about Czech Government Scholarships for the 2027/2028 academic year, including information indicating that Nigerian applicants are qualified. Please be aware that this information is incorrect,” the embassy stated.

It further explained that while it was aware of the strong interest among Nigerian students in studying in the Czech Republic, the government scholarship would not be available to applicants from Nigeria during the 2027/2028 academic year.

“We know that many Nigerian students are interested in studying in the Czech Republic, and we understand that this may be disappointing news. Unfortunately, the Czech Government Scholarship is not available to applicants from Nigeria this year,” the embassy added.

The diplomatic mission urged Nigerian students to disregard scholarship information from unauthorised websites claiming that the country had been included among the eligible nations.

It advised prospective applicants seeking accurate information on study opportunities in the Czech Republic to consult the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Dům zahraniční spolupráce, the agency responsible for supporting international education opportunities.

The embassy said the clarification was necessary to prevent students from making plans or taking financial steps based on false claims regarding their eligibility.

It also acknowledged the interest of Nigerian students in pursuing education in the Czech Republic and wished prospective applicants success in their academic pursuits.
