Breaking: ALGON Chairman Allwell-Ihunda Escapes-Deadly Youth Protest In Port-Harcourt (Details)

The chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Rivers State, Allwell Ihunda, narrowly avoids a confrontation as protesting youths chase him along Moscow Road in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

According to reports, Ihunda, outgoing Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, faced the incident while heading to the council secretariat with his aides and security detail.

Upon arriving and attempting to enter the council building, Ihunda encountered youths blocking the entrance. They immediately began shouting and pursuing him, prompting his security team to fire shots into the air to disperse the crowd.

Ihunda managed to flee in a black SUV with his aides amidst continued verbal assaults from the youths.

The incident follows a recent decision by ALGON members in the state not to vacate their offices following the expiration of their tenure, citing legislative amendments.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s directive for local government administrators to take over council affairs from June 19 adds to the political tension in the state.
