This information was relayed in a statement on Sunday by SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare.
The respondents in the case, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, include Abdulaziz Yari, Aminu Tambuwal, Adamu Aliero, Adams Oshiomole, Ibrahim Gaidam, Seriake Dickson, Ibrahim Dankwambo, Aliyu Wammako, Gbenga Daniel, and Dave Umahi.

The lawsuit seeks “an order of mandamus to instruct and compel Mr. Akpabio, nine other senators, and Mr. Umahi to cease collecting both salaries and pensions and to return any pensions received to their respective state treasuries.”
Additionally, the group requests “an order of mandamus to instruct and compel Mr. Akpabio, nine other senators, and Mr. Umahi to clarify and disclose whether they have received and/or are currently receiving both salaries and pensions as former governors.
Furthermore, they seek “an order of mandamus to instruct and compel Mr. Akpabio, nine other senators, and Mr. Umahi to reveal the specifics and amounts of the pensions they have received thus far.”
SERAP contends that, “The Seventh Schedule to the Nigerian Constitution 1999 (as amended) mandates former governors to cease both salary and pension collection and to return any pensions received. Unless the requested relief is granted, the former governors will continue to receive life pension benefits and collect salaries as current public officials, perpetuating a distortion of public interest for private gain.”
As of now, a specific hearing date for the case has not been set.
