Shehu Sani Reveals Position On Calls For FRSC Personnel To Bear Guns

Former Senator Shehu Sani has expressed his support for the proposition to equip personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) with firearms.

However, he suggested that only those stationed on federal highways outside urban areas should undergo training and be issued firearms.

This endorsement comes in the wake of the Federal Road Safety Corps emphasizing the importance of arming its personnel in order to effectively carry out their responsibilities, given the prevailing security issues nationwide.

During the inauguration of 1,762 corps personnel who recently completed their four-month introductory course at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kontagora, Niger, Corps Marshal Dauda Biu called for this measure. He highlighted that it would provide necessary security for personnel who frequently face attacks while on duty, often by certain road users or suspected criminals who exploit the current security challenges in the country.

In response, the former Senator representing the Kaduna central district stated: “I support that Federal Road Safety Corps should bear arms,” he wrote on X.

“But only for those working on the federal highways outside the cities,” he added.
