BREAKING: Results Collated So Far In Bayelsa As INEC Adjourns Collation Till Monday Noon

On Sunday night, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) postponed the collation of results for the Bayelsa State Governorship Election held on November 11, 2023, until Monday noon.

Results from six out of the eight local government areas—Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Yenegoa, Sagbama, Nembe, and Ekeremor—have been compiled, while the outcomes for Brass and Southern Ijaw are yet to be included.

Prof Faruq Kuta, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Of Technology, Minna, and the designated Returning Officer for the Bayelsa election, adjourned the process on Sunday night. Sixteen political parties fielded candidates for the election.

The main contender against Governor Duoye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is Timipre Sylva, a former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and a former governor of Bayelsa. Sylva, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, served as the Bayelsa governor in two non-consecutive terms, first from May 2007 to April 2008 and later from May 2008 to January 2012.

Notably, governorship elections took place in Imo and Kogi states on the preceding Saturday. INEC has already declared a winner in Imo, where Governor Hope Uzodimma of the APC emerged victorious over Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP, Nneji Achonu of the Labour Party (LP), and 15 other contestants. Uzodimma secured 540,308 votes, surpassing Anyanwu with 71,503 votes and Achonu with 64,081 votes.
