CDQ Claims You Must Belong To A Gang, Exposes Music Industry’s Dark Side
According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian rapper Sodiq Yusuf, popularly known as CDQ, has alleged that success in the music industry is often influenced by affiliation with certain groups, describing it as a system where artistes may need to belong to a caucus, gang, or cult-like structure to receive support.
CDQ made the statement during a recent interview on Jbrandy Entertainment, where he discussed the challenges faced by independent musicians trying to break into the industry without backing or connections.
The ‘Secure The Bag’ crooner claimed that artistes without such affiliations often struggle financially and rarely see returns on their investments. He added that those who manage to succeed independently should consider themselves fortunate, stressing that lack of association with influential groups can make the journey significantly harder.
CDQ, who rose to fame following the success of his 2015 hit single ‘Nowo E Soke’ featuring Grammy award-winning artist Wizkid, has remained a prominent figure in Nigeria’s indigenous rap scene, widely recognized for his unique style and signature ad-libs such as ‘Woss Wobi’.
In November 2016, he further expanded his career by establishing his own record label, N.S.N.S (No Struggle No Success Entertainment), marking a major step toward independence in the music business.
