NDC Crisis Deepens In Lagos As Exco Revolts Against Chairman’s Leadership Style

The allegations were raised on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, during a press briefing in Ikeja led by the Deputy Chairman of the party in the state, Akinwande Osikominu, following an emergency meeting of some executive members.

Osikominu alleged that the chairman had consistently sidelined other leaders in major decisions, a situation he said had deepened internal divisions and weakened confidence in the leadership of the Lagos chapter. He further claimed that tensions escalated during the conduct of the recent primaries, where, according to him, members of the State Executive Committee were not informed of a separate election committee allegedly constituted by the national leadership until the collation stage.

Describing the situation as embarrassing and damaging to internal trust, he said the lack of transparency excluded the state executive from key electoral processes. He also accused the chairman of unilaterally altering agreed election reports and results, which he said further worsened divisions within the party structure.

The deputy chairman warned that the ongoing leadership disputes could negatively affect the party’s performance in future elections if not urgently addressed. He also raised concerns over the chairman’s prolonged absence from Lagos, arguing that it had created a leadership gap and weakened grassroots coordination.

Osikominu further alleged irregularities in party administration, including disputes over the publication of authentic local government executives and claims of financial mismanagement. He alleged that party funds were being diverted into unofficial channels, while the office of the state treasurer had been rendered ineffective.

He also claimed that official party activities were increasingly being conducted outside the party secretariat, in venues such as hotels and business centres, rather than at designated offices. Despite the allegations, he insisted that the aggrieved members remained loyal to the national leadership and called for urgent intervention by the party’s National Executive Committee to restore unity, transparency, and accountability in the Lagos chapter.

However, reacting to the claims, a source close to the chairman dismissed the allegations as false and politically motivated. The source maintained that King Okuneye had performed effectively in office, describing the accusations of manipulation and financial misconduct as baseless. According to the source, the internal disagreement stemmed from dissatisfaction among some members over the outcome of the primaries, adding that the allegations were driven by personal interests rather than facts.
