The Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate (CPPM) has expressed deep condolences to the immediate and extended family, friends, associates, and the government and people of Katsina State, as well as the entire nation, following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

According to IReporter Online, the civil society group, in a statement issued in Lagos by its Executive Director, Nelson Ekujumi, described Buhari as a symbol of discipline, humility, and service. The organisation mourned what it called the “unexpected and painful” loss of a man who embodied democratic values, integrity, and selflessness. Buhari, they noted, was a devout Muslim, role model, and statesman who lived a life of simplicity and unwavering commitment to national development.

The group reminisced about the former President’s unwavering dedication to Nigeria, recalling with pride his service both as a military leader and two-term civilian president. According to IReporter Online, CPPM stressed that Buhari assumed office during periods of national crisis, describing his leadership as a divine intervention aimed at pulling Nigeria back from the brink of moral and economic collapse.

They also hailed him as a hero of democracy, citing his historic declaration of June 12 as Democracy Day—a move they said showed his deep respect for Nigeria’s democratic struggles. His administration’s legacy, they noted, includes critical investments in infrastructure—spanning roads, railways, schools, hospitals, and airports—even amid the global challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The group further commended Buhari’s compassion, particularly his swift approval of financial relief for state governments in 2015, which enabled them to pay months-long salary arrears. They described him as a disciplined and incorruptible leader who was never afraid to speak truth to power.
