Commencing in Kano and Lagos states, the program is set to expand to cover all remaining states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) within the next two weeks. This significant initiative, led by the private sector, seeks to address food insecurity and provide essential food supplies, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of ADF and Group President of Dangote Industries Limited, emphasized the foundation’s commitment to supporting Nigerians, especially during times of need like Ramadan. He underscored the importance of collective efforts in alleviating the hardships faced by less privileged Nigerians through strategic interventions such as the rice distribution program.

“Our distribution of rice symbolizes our commitment to upholding the values of compassion and solidarity that are at the core of our humanity,” said Dangote. “The ADF is distributing a total of 120,000 bags of rice in Kano alone, overseen by the Kano Hisbah Board to ensure the rice reaches the most vulnerable residents.”

In addition to rice distribution, the foundation is providing 10,000 iftar meals throughout Ramadan in Kano Municipality, complementing its daily bread relief program that has been ongoing since 2020 to support vulnerable families in Kano and Lagos States amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fatima Aliko Dangote, Group Executive Director, Commercial, reiterated the foundation’s commitment to supporting the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria. She highlighted the foundation’s longstanding tradition of impactful philanthropy, including providing 10,000 cooked meals daily to vulnerable populations in Kano State since the 1990s.

The overarching goal of these efforts is to build a society where every individual has the opportunity to fulfill their potential and lead dignified, prosperous lives. This necessitates a collective commitment from both individuals and institutions to address systemic challenges, promote social justice, and foster an inclusive and equitable society for all Africans.
