Shaibu’s legal representative cited an interlocutory injunction from an Abuja Federal High Court, postponing the proceedings to April 8, 2024. While Shaibu’s camp emphasizes adherence to the court ruling, the House of Assembly’s counsel contends that constitutional provisions support the panel’s activities.
The inquiry into allegations of misconduct against Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has encountered a significant development as Shaibu’s legal team has opted to suspend his involvement in the proceedings. The decision, rooted in an interlocutory injunction from an Abuja Federal High Court, postpones further actions until April 8, 2024.
Representing Shaibu, Professor Oladoyin Awoyale (SAN) highlighted the imperative nature of adhering to the court’s ruling, underscoring concerns that the panel’s continued proceedings might preempt the court’s decision.
In response, the House of Assembly’s counsel, Ohiafi Joe, contended that constitutional mandates empower the panel’s activities, asserting that no court directive can obstruct the House and the panel from executing their constitutional obligations.
