Reuben Abati, a renowned media figure and former presidential spokesperson, has taken a swipe at Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent one-term presidency pledge.

According to iReporter Online, Abati made his position clear during Monday’s edition of the Arise Television programme, where he described Obi’s vow to serve just one term as president as a glaring display of desperation.

Obi’s controversial remark — “I will do one term; I will serve you food” — has sparked mixed reactions across political circles and the public.

According to iReporter Online, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State also weighed in, mocking Obi over the statement, while Obi remained adamant and defended his position.

Reacting further, Abati dismissed the tactic as unserious and unconvincing, warning Nigerians not to fall for such political gimmicks. He said, “Any politician who says, ‘I’ll do only one term,’ is showing signs of desperation. It won’t work.

All that talk about serving food and carrying plates — those are publicity stunts better left to event planners.”

According to iReporter Online, Abati emphasized that Nigeria’s progress hinges on electing leaders based on competence, not religion or ethnicity. He concluded that voters must reject hollow promises and desperation-fueled theatrics if the nation is to move forward.
