checks, Orizu was found to be carrying 74 wraps of heroin and cocaine, which he had ingested in an attempt to smuggle the drugs.
According to NDLEA Media Director Femi Babafemi, the arrest occurred on December 22, 2024, when Orizu initially declined a body scan, citing health reasons. After being detained for observation, he excreted the drugs over seven days. Orizu confessed that he had been promised €3,000 to transport the drugs to France, operating a shop at Balogun Market, Lagos.
In another operation, the NDLEA’s Marine Command intercepted two boats at Eleko Beach, Lagos, on December 24, recovering nearly 2,000 kilograms of potent cannabis known as “Ghanaian Loud.” Six foreign nationals, including two Ghanaians and four Beninese, were arrested in connection with the operation.
Additionally, drug seizures continued across Nigeria with arrests in Katsina and Edo States. On Christmas Day, Ibrahim Shaibu, 35, was detained at Central Motor Park with 35 kilograms of cannabis. On December 28, Umar Ahmed, 47, was arrested on Zaria-Malumfashi Road with another 13.5 kilograms.
A raid in Benin City, Edo State, on December 23 resulted in the arrest of 21-year-old Kosisochukwu Ozigbo, who was found with over 30,000 tramadol pills, 936 bottles of codeine syrup, and other opioids.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the agency’s efforts throughout 2024, emphasizing the importance of intensifying the fight against drug trafficking in the upcoming year. The agency also launched nationwide advocacy campaigns to combat drug abuse through its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative.
