Ekiti Government Greenlights Immediate Distribution Of N331m Food Supplies Amid Hardship

In response to the prevailing economic challenges, the Ekiti State Government has approved the swift acquisition and dissemination of N331 million worth of food items to residents across all 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 22 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state. Additionally, the state government has sanctioned the disbursement of outstanding furniture allowances to political officeholders who served between 2022 and 2023. These beneficiaries include Vice Chairmen, Secretaries, Councilors, Supervisors, and Special Advisers, recognizing their contributions to local development and seeking to mitigate the impact of economic difficulties nationwide.

Mr. Folorunso Olabode, the State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, disclosed these measures in Ado Ekiti, emphasizing their importance in light of global economic challenges. He outlined that each ward would receive 25 bags of rice, ensuring an equitable distribution process devoid of political bias. Collaboration with Community Development Associations (CDAs) in each LGA will facilitate the efficient execution of the distribution plan.

Olabode highlighted the objectives of the initiative, aiming not only to alleviate food scarcity but also to address the escalating cost of living, particularly at the grassroots level. Furthermore, he encouraged Local Governments to promote agricultural engagement among their populace, especially youths, leveraging opportunities provided by the state’s Ministry of Agriculture to transition from subsistence farming to sustainable agribusiness ventures.
