Esosa Iyawe Explains His Defection From Labour Party To APC

He joined this transition alongside three other LP members, citing a leadership crisis within the party.
In a statement made on Thursday, Iyawe expressed his dissatisfaction with the ongoing leadership turmoil in the Labour Party and the numerous court cases affecting its leadership. He indicated that after consulting with his family and constituents, he felt compelled to change his political affiliation.
“I am formally resigning from the Labour Party (LP), effective immediately. This decision comes after careful reflection on my personal beliefs and how they align with the current political landscape,” he said.
Iyawe outlined his frustrations with the Labour Party’s failure to establish a legitimate Caretaker Committee at both National and State levels, which has contributed to the instability in party leadership that has confused him and his supporters.
He referenced his constitutional right to freedom of association, explaining that he is moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC) because its principles and ideologies align more closely with his political aspirations. “I have consulted with my family and supporters regarding this decision,” he noted.
Iyawe also expressed gratitude towards the Labour Party for providing a platform for his political career and acknowledged its role in advancing democracy in the country.
“I reaffirm my commitment to serving and representing my constituents, as this transition will surely enhance my effectiveness at all levels,” Iyawe concluded, thanking the Labour Party’s leadership and members for their support during his time in the party.
