Ex-Blue Glen Johnson Pushes For Osimhen Deal ‘A Game-Changer For Chelsea’
Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has emphasized that it would be a “huge mistake” for his former club to pass up the chance to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen when the transfer window reopens in 2025.….CONTINUE READING
According to reports, Chelsea remains highly interested in Osimhen, particularly since the 25-year-old striker, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has a clause allowing him to move to a top club in January. The Nigerian star, valued at around £62 million, has attracted attention after a failed transfer to Chelsea in the summer of 2024.
Several Chelsea legends, including Didier Drogba and Mikel Obi, have backed the club’s pursuit of Osimhen, especially as his form has been outstanding. Osimhen has scored three goals and provided four assists in just five matches for the Turkish side, further boosting his reputation as a top-tier striker.
While Chelsea’s coach, Enzo Maresca, is enjoying success in the Premier League and other competitions, Glen Johnson told Betfred on Wednesday that the team would still benefit greatly from Osimhen’s presence. Johnson noted that Chelsea’s current lead striker, Nicolas Jackson, has potential, but Osimhen could offer more guaranteed goals.
“I like Jackson a lot,” Johnson said, “but I’m not sure if he’s the type of forward who will get you 15 to 20 goals a season. Osimhen moving on loan to Galatasaray was surprising, given the summer interest in him.”
Johnson believes Chelsea should prioritize signing Osimhen. “It would be a mistake for Chelsea not to go after him. His arrival could even push Jackson to improve as they would compete for the starting role,” he added.
