Ex-Trump CFO Allen Weisselberg Pleads Guilty To Perjury, Faces Jail Time In Civil Fraud Trial
In a dramatic turn of events, Allen Weisselberg, former Chief Financial Officer for Donald Trump, has pleaded guilty to five counts of perjury related to his testimony during the former president’s civil fraud trial last fall……READ ALSO FBI launches Urgent manhunt For Iranian secret Agent Accused Of Plotting To Assassinate Trump-Era Officials In Revenge For Killing Of Commander Of Iran’s Quds Force
Weisselberg, aged 76, surrendered to the Manhattan district attorney’s office on Monday after weeks of negotiations with prosecutors. He is set to face a five-month jail sentence as part of the plea deal, according to The Associated Press.
During the trial, Weisselberg was suspected of providing false information about Trump’s financial affairs, prompting further scrutiny of his testimony. In a solemn moment during his arraignment, Weisselberg admitted to the judge that he lied under oath and pleaded guilty because he is guilty.
Prosecutor Gary Fishman emphasized the gravity of perjury, stating that it undermines the integrity of the justice system. Despite Weisselberg’s age, Fishman argued that prison time was necessary to address the harm caused by his false testimony.
Weisselberg’s sentencing is scheduled for April 10, with the terms of the plea deal mirroring his previous arrangement in a 2022 tax fraud case. He had served approximately 100 days in jail as part of that prior agreement.
Among the charges he pleaded guilty to, Weisselberg confessed to lying about his involvement in Trump’s financial statements during depositions and trial testimony. He admitted to providing false information about Trump’s property valuations and his role in determining financial figures, contradicting his previous statements.
The plea agreement marks a significant development in the ongoing legal saga surrounding Trump and his business dealings, underscoring the serious consequences of perjury in high-profile trials.
