Fastest Way To Ruin A Child’s Life” — Patience Ozokwor Warns Parents
Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, has advised parents against shielding their children completely from hardship, stressing that experiencing struggle and learning to work hard are important parts of growing into responsible adults.
According to reports, Ozokwor gave the advice during a recent interview with media personality Femi Baba, where she described excessive protection from hardship as one of the quickest ways parents could negatively affect their children’s future.
The actress, popularly known as Mama G, also recalled an experience in which she asked her son to leave her house and work towards owning a home of his own.
She explained that she deliberately raised her children with discipline and an understanding of hard work, adding that the approach had helped them become responsible and successful.
Ozokwor cautioned parents against trying to spare their children from every difficulty simply because they do not want their offspring to experience the challenges they faced while growing up.
“The fastest way to ruin a child’s life is to say you don’t want them to suffer the way you did,” she said.
She added, “When you’re gone, they may start fighting over your property. I told my son, ‘My house isn’t yours. Go and work for your own.’”
The veteran actress also reflected on her personal journey, revealing in a separate interview with media personality Isbae U that she got married at the age of 19.
Ozokwor described her early years of marriage as challenging, noting that she was young and unprepared for the responsibilities that came with marriage.
Despite the difficulties she encountered, the actress said her children later became a major source of happiness and purpose in her life.
She also reflected on how life can take unexpected turns, explaining that experiences that initially appear painful can eventually become meaningful parts of a person’s journey.
Ozokwor said she has learned to focus on the positive aspects of her experiences and expressed gratitude for the life she has built, particularly the role her children and family have played in her happiness.
