Fatal Crash Claims Five Lives, Leaves 12 Injured On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The collision, which occurred around 1:07pm near the Foursquare Church, Ajebo, involved a Mazda bus bearing registration number SMK685YG and a Howo truck with registration number ZE-1210G.

According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of the Mazda bus succumbed to fatigue, leading to a catastrophic loss of control that resulted in a collision with the moving truck.

Tragically, four males and one female lost their lives in the aftermath of the crash, while 12 others, comprising 10 males and two females, sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The injured victims were swiftly transported to Victory Hospital, Ogere Remo, for urgent medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were respectfully laid to rest at the FOS Morgue, Ipara Remo.

The FRSC identified burst tire, speed, and driver fatigue as the suspected culprits behind this heart-wrenching accident, emphasizing the importance of proper rest and roadworthy vehicles in preventing such tragedies.

Sector Commander Anthony Uga issued a stern warning to motorists, urging them to prioritize safety over speed and to always ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles. He emphasized the critical need for drivers to remain vigilant and well-rested, while also encouraging passengers to speak up if they notice any signs of fatigue or erratic driving behavior.

As the affected families grapple with the overwhelming grief of losing their loved ones, the entire community mourns alongside them, offering prayers for strength and solace during this time of profound loss.
