Federal Government Set To Restructure NYSC, Minister Announces

Dr. Ibrahim announced that a team would be inaugurated to spearhead the review, with a primary focus on fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among participants and prioritizing skills development within the program. Additionally, he revealed plans to financially support over 5000 corps members in their entrepreneurial ventures, with funding of up to N10 million each.

The Minister emphasized the government’s vision for the NYSC to evolve into a self-sustained and revenue-generating program within the next five years. To achieve this goal, efforts would be directed towards institutionalizing NYSC ventures as an investment and asset management outfit.

Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, Director-General of NYSC, highlighted the purpose of the meeting, aimed at improving the mobilization process of prospective corps members. He stressed the need to address identified challenges and ensure a seamless mobilization process, with active involvement from chief executives of corps-producing institutions.

Reaffirming NYSC’s commitment to the security and welfare of corps members, Ahmed urged stakeholders to collaborate in sensitizing young graduates on the importance of adhering to safety measures during national service deployments.

Representing the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike commended NYSC management for selecting Abuja as the meeting venue. He underscored the importance of innovative strategies to overcome challenges and enhance the engagement of young graduates in national development efforts, urging participants to actively contribute to the meeting’s success.
