Festive Joy Fills Surulere As Desmond Elliott Brings “Santa On The Street” To The People

Elliott made the appeal during his annual “Santa on the Street” outreach, a festive initiative held between December 24 and 26 to mark the Yuletide season. The programme featured widespread acts of generosity across Surulere, as the lawmaker and his team visited hospitals, schools, worship centres, streets, and various Christmas celebration venues within the constituency.

Residents received food items, toys, cash vouchers, books, and live chickens, with Elliott personally leading the distribution while dressed in a Santa Claus costume. The outreach covered notable locations including Saint Anthony Catholic Church, Gbaja; Surulere Central Mosque; and Precious Stone Church on Ibidun Street, drawing smiles and excitement from residents and passersby.

Speaking during the exercise, Elliott described Christmas as a season centred on love and unity, stressing that giving is not measured by quantity but by sincerity. He encouraged Nigerians to show kindness to their neighbours regardless of religious or social differences, noting that the message of Christmas is rooted in love, forgiveness, and compassion for humanity.

He further explained that the initiative was designed to take goodwill directly to the grassroots, observing that assistance often fails to reach those who need it most. According to him, the outreach also serves as a way of strengthening bonds between leaders and their communities while promoting peaceful coexistence.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture, with an elderly woman in the Akerele Extension area praising the lawmaker for consistently supporting residents during festive periods and responding promptly to community challenges. She urged him to continue the outreach, describing it as a source of encouragement for many families.

At Saint Anthony Catholic Church, a youth identified as Bennard described the visit as inspiring, noting that it reinforced the importance of spreading love irrespective of age. He added that the message of the season remains the same for both young and old.

Also speaking, the Director-General of Hon. Desmond Elliott’s Campaign Organisation, Mr. Gabriel Omotosho, disclosed that the culture of festive giving has been sustained since Elliott’s entry into public service. He said the lawmaker has consistently supported street carnivals and community celebrations across Surulere to ensure residents enjoy the season in peace and unity.

Omotosho advised residents to celebrate responsibly and wished the constituency a prosperous new year filled with progress and positive development. Meanwhile, a medical practitioner who participated in the outreach, Dr. Ototemi Oludayo of TopTee Medical Centre, urged Nigerians to remain health-conscious during the festivities. He explained that part of the outreach involved visiting children’s Christmas parties to share health tips while distributing toys and gifts to promote both joy and wellbeing.

The “Santa on the Street” initiative once again highlighted community-driven leadership, as Surulere residents joined in celebrating a Christmas marked by generosity, unity, and shared humanity.
