FG: We’ll End K!ll!ngs, Nigerians Have Right To Self-Defence — Presidency
According to Ireporter Online, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ending killings and restoring peace across the country.
Bwala made the statement on Wednesday while reacting to the recent attack on the Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where gunmen reportedly invaded L.A. Primary School during school hours and abducted teachers and pupils, sparking widespread panic among residents and parents.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, he stressed that the Tinubu administration remains determined to strengthen security measures and ensure the protection of citizens, adding that insecurity would be brought under control through sustained government efforts and collective support from Nigerians.
He further noted that citizens are not expected to remain helpless in the face of violent attacks, stating that Nigerians have a constitutional right to self-defence when their lives are threatened. According to him, the principle of self-defence is legally backed, and communities also have a role to play in supporting security efforts through vigilance and intelligence sharing.
Bwala explained that while criminal elements operate across different parts of the world, no government can completely eliminate such threats alone, emphasizing that collaboration between citizens and security agencies is essential to achieving lasting peace.
He also highlighted the importance of community-based security structures, noting that vigilante groups and local intelligence networks in some regions have contributed to supporting law enforcement in tackling insecurity.
Reassuring Nigerians, he maintained that the government would not relent in its efforts to end killings and ensure safety across the country, stressing that sustained commitment and collective action remain key to overcoming the security challenges.
