During a private meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara announced the approval of promotions accompanied by full financial benefits for local government employees. This decision was warmly received during discussions with principal officers of the local government areas and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).
In a significant stride towards enhancing workers’ financial security, Governor Fubara endorsed the implementation of a minimum wage of N30,000.00 for local government workers. Furthermore, the Governor swiftly approved the implementation of the N35,000.00 wage award recently sanctioned by the Federal Government to mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of NULGE, Governor Fubara underscored the union’s inclusion as a member of the Local Government Pensions Board, as mandated by law. Additionally, he emphasized the implementation of a consolidated salary structure for retiring local government workers at grade level 17.
The Rivers State chapter of NULGE expressed appreciation for Governor Fubara’s proactive measures, pledging unwavering support from local government workers to the administration. This move is set to significantly uplift the morale and financial stability of local government employees in Rivers State.
