Full Text: Key Highlights From Tinubu’s Address At The APC National Convention
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday night addressed Nigerians and members of the All Progressives Congress during the party’s national convention held at Eagle Square, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to unity, democratic consolidation, and national development.
According to reports, the President described the convention as a defining moment in the party’s history, emphasizing that it serves as an opportunity to strengthen internal cohesion and recommit to the ideals that shaped the APC’s formation. He reflected on the party’s origins, noting that its emergence over a decade ago was driven by a collective resolve to reposition Nigeria’s political and economic trajectory.
Tinubu stressed that unity remains the party’s greatest strength, warning that internal divisions fueled by personal ambition could undermine its progress. He maintained that the APC must continue to function not merely as a political platform for electoral victories, but as a vehicle for national transformation capable of delivering good governance, economic growth, and social stability.
Addressing concerns about Nigeria’s democratic framework, the President reiterated his support for a multi-party system, stating that constructive opposition is essential for strengthening governance. He, however, criticized persistent objections to recent electoral reforms, noting that the legislative process behind the amendments reflected national consensus and adherence to constitutional provisions.
The President highlighted key achievements of his administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda, pointing to ongoing infrastructure projects, fiscal reforms, and efforts to stabilize the economy amid global uncertainties. He acknowledged external pressures, including geopolitical tensions, but insisted that Nigeria has made measurable progress, citing improvements in inflation, investor confidence, trade performance, and foreign exchange stability.
He further disclosed that initiatives are underway to address longstanding challenges in the power sector, including plans to enhance electricity supply through new grid infrastructure. Tinubu assured Nigerians that current reforms, though demanding, are necessary steps toward long-term prosperity.
In his remarks directed at young people and women, the President emphasized the need for greater inclusion in governance and party leadership, describing both groups as critical to Nigeria’s future. He urged stakeholders to foster a political environment that encourages participation, innovation, and accountability.
Calling for discipline and unity among party members, Tinubu advised delegates and aspirants to conduct themselves with integrity throughout the convention process. He underscored the importance of collective success over individual interests, urging members to remain committed to the party’s vision.
The President also commended party leaders, governors, and members of the convention planning committee for their roles in organizing the event, expressing confidence that the outcomes of the gathering would further strengthen the APC’s structure and national influence.
He concluded by charging newly elected party officials to lead with integrity, transparency, and dedication, noting that the future of both the APC and Nigeria’s democracy depends on responsible leadership.
