Obaseki emphasized that the increased minimum wage, up from N40,000, reflects a recognition of the hardships faced by workers amidst rising fuel prices, exchange rates, and food costs. He underscored the government’s empathy towards these challenges and its commitment to addressing them proactively.
The governor assured workers that the N70,000 minimum wage is within the state government’s affordability range. Additionally, he pledged to adjust the minimum wage further if the Federal Government approves a higher wage and provides states with the necessary funds saved from fuel subsidy removal.
Acknowledging civil servants as indispensable partners in the state’s progress, Obaseki credited their contributions to his administration’s achievements over the past seven and a half years. He expressed gratitude to the workers and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to their welfare and well-being.
