How Much Really Did Obaseki Spend In Purchasing PDP’s Ticket And Who Are The Beneficiaries? Matters Arising
“Dem Never Give Person Admission She Don Go Rent Hostel For School…..the question is what is the plan?”
Today the PDP is holding its national convention which is set to produce its national chairman that would steer the affairs of the party for the next four years. The race towards today’s national convention has been laced with so many controversies that many were of the opinion that the convention would not see the light of the day due to the several litigation cases hovering on its head.
Alas, the convention would be holding and all delegates are already assembled in Abuja for the main event. One State which has been on the news prior to the convention was Edo State. The crux of the matter was the control of the structure of the PDP between Obaseki and the legacy members of the party.
According to Obaseki as the leader of the party, he deserves a harmonization list that would feature prominently the foot soldiers that followed him from the APC.
While the PDP claims that its party executives were elected and as such Obaseki can not upturn their election, they instead advised the Governor to use his appointees’ list to fix the people he wishes to harmonize into the state executive in his cabinet. In other words, the party has explicitly told Obaseki to forget the party structure and concentrate on his own political appointments.
Bush radio after listening carefully to both sides of this incredible argument has one asymmetric observation on whether Obaseki has the right to take over the full control of the structure of the PDP or if PDP should sacrifice its party executives for Obaseki.
For the people championing that Obaseki bought the party ticket in PDP and so should dictate the tune here are our questions.
How much did Obaseki pay in securing the PDP’s party ticket? Who specifically did Obaseki channel the money through? Did Obaseki specify the product and services he was buying? Aside from the party ticket purchase what else did the Governor pay for?
It should be clear what amount he paid, who he paid to and what he paid for.
The amount Obaseki paid for the ticket must be spelt out for us to determine if he overpaid the PDP or they were underpaid. We must determine the value of the services bought before we can come to a conclusion. During the heat of the campaign, we heard 6 billion, 8 billion and 21 billion to the extent that Wike coined some unknown people as tax collectors.
Then for those championing that PDP owes Obaseki no debt here are our questions.
What were the terms of the agreement entered into with Obaseki? Did he pay for himself alongside his Deputy, Philip Shaibu? Who collected the money on behalf of the party? Was there any agreement that party executives were among the purchase?
Both parties unfortunately have been evasive of these questions and without a clear definition of the services rendered and amount paid then both the PDP and Obaseki’s proponents should keep their squabbles to themselves as the general public can not adjudicate In a matter that is concealed of facts and agreements.
The only thing wey shock us here na say, “Dem Never Give Person Admission She Don Go Rent Hostel For School…..the question is what is the plan?”.
As the 2023 general election approaches party stakeholders are scrambling for delegates, Obaseki seems to have lost out in the power tussle and may likely beat a retreat, in politics, you must stoop to conquer.
While the PDP entertains us with its drama we should not fail to ask both parties what amount was paid and services rendered if they seek our opinion.
