Governor Uzodimma had ordered the arrest and detention of Atulegwu, accusing him of land-grabbing and related offenses. Atulegwu was held at the police headquarters in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

Following investigations by the State CID of the Police Command, the dismissed commissioner has been released on bail, allowing him to reunite with his family after more than a month in custody.

However, an anonymous source from Imo Government House, Owerri, informed journalists that further actions and investigations are ongoing in the matter.
