According to a statement released by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the INEC Information and Voter Education Committee, the commission has officially set a deadline for the submission of nomination forms for candidates vying in the election.

Olumekun revealed that the deadline for the submission of nomination forms has been scheduled for Sunday, March 24th, 2024. This deadline comes after the expiration of the period designated for the conduct of primaries by political parties, which ended on February 24th, 2024.

In adherence to the electoral timetable and schedule of activities for the Edo State Governorship election, political parties are required to upload the Personal Particulars (Form EC9) and Names/List of Nominated candidates (Form EC9B) of their candidates through a dedicated online portal. This portal will open at 9:00 am on Monday, March 4th, 2024, and will automatically close at 6:00 pm on Sunday, March 24th, 2024.

National Chairmen of political parties can collect access codes to the portal starting from the announcement date. Furthermore, INEC has organized training sessions for the submission process, commencing from Friday, March 1st, 2024, to Monday, March 4th, 2024, at the Media Centre located at the INEC Headquarters in Abuja.

During the nomination period, the Media Centre will serve as a Help Desk to provide assistance to any political party in need. INEC emphasizes that the allocated 20-day window for uploading nomination forms is sufficient for each political party to submit forms for only two candidates per party – the Governorship candidate and the running mate.

Political parties are urged to strictly adhere to the outlined timelines, and INEC emphasizes that no extensions beyond the stipulated deadline of March 24th, 2024, will be granted. The commission underscores the importance of compliance with these timelines for a smooth electoral process.
