Taking advantage of the broken walls caused by the rain, the inmates escaped the prison facility on Wednesday. Ten of the escaped inmates have since been re-arrested and returned to the facility, while a manhunt, led by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) authorities and other security agencies, has been initiated to apprehend the remaining escapees.
During the visit, the Minister inquired about the measures being taken to arrest the fleeing inmates and bring them back to the centre. Accompanying the Minister were Peter Egbodo, the director of joint services at the Interior Ministry, and other top officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), who were present to receive the Minister and his team.
Furthermore, additional security personnel have been deployed to the vicinity of the facility, and the areas have been cordoned off to prevent further escapes and aid in the recapture of the fleeing inmates.
