According to Ireporter Online, Gabriele Gravina has resigned as president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) following Italy’s failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for a third consecutive cycle. Gravina submitted his resignation during an emergency FIGC general council meeting convened shortly after Italy’s penalty shootout defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina on March 31. A vote to appoint his successor has been scheduled for June 22.

The emergency session included prominent figures from Italian football, spanning professional leagues, amateur clubs, players, and coaches. Gravina had served as FIGC president since October 2018. Under his leadership, Italy claimed the UEFA Euro 2020 title but failed to secure qualification for both the 2022 and 2026 World Cups, as well as the 2018 tournament prior to his tenure.
