Just In: Heavy-Security Presence At EFCC Head-Office In Lagos Over Planned-Protests (Details)
There is heavy security at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) head office on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State. The EFCC had alerted the public about planned protests against the commission.
Operatives from the Lagos State Anti-Crime Outfit, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and their vans are strategically stationed on routes leading to the Lagos EFCC office. Additionally, men from the Department of State Services (DSS) are among the joint security forces present, equipped with patrol vans, heavy anti-riot gun trucks, and Black Marias.
Reports indicate that the protesters, under the tag #ReformEFCC, have outlined six key demands which will be submitted to various EFCC offices across the country. These demands include:
– Respect fundamental human rights
– Stop indiscriminate arrests and home invasions
– Cease destruction of property during sting operations
– End profiling of young Nigerians
– Halt assaults and manhandling of Nigerians
A Twitter user, @PidomNigeria, emphasized the peaceful and non-political nature of the #ReformEFCC protest, stating that anyone attempting to politicize the event would be handed over to the police by the protesters.
