PDP APC

In Otuan’s Ward 5 within the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) witnessed a significant surge on Sunday, August 27, 2023. Over 18 prominent leaders, along with approximately 1,360 of their supporters, made a transition from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

This event took place in Otuan town during the visit of Great Joshua Maciver, who is the running mate to Chief Timipre Sylva, the esteemed Governor. Great Joshua’s visit began at the residence of the Amananaowei of Otuan, His Royal Highness Engr Nana Okoto. He explicitly mentioned that his presence wasn’t for campaign purposes, but to dismantle the PDP’s influence within the ward.

Represented by his council of chiefs, His Royal Highness sought the assistance of Great Joshua, the APC deputy governorship candidate, in completing the town hall for the community. The chiefs expressed their discontent with the numerous promises regarding the town hall that had yet to materialize.

Responding to this concern, Great Joshua made a commitment to finalize the construction of the town hall and promptly initiate the necessary steps to kick-start the project.

At the venue where the defection occurred, Great Joshua, affectionately known as the Tukpa of Izon-Ibe, lamented the lack of development experienced by the people of Southern Ijaw. He also criticized the Oporoma bridge project under the governorship of Douye Diri, suggesting that the current administration was taking advantage of the area’s residents. Great Joshua assured the audience that under Sylva’s leadership, the administration would carefully review and build infrastructure that aligns with the area’s substantial contributions to the state’s wealth.

The leaders of the defectors took turns expressing their disillusionment with the PDP. They stated that they could no longer tolerate the party’s deceptive strategies, branding the PDP as the epitome of deceit and practitioners of the “use-and-dump” mentality. They pledged their unwavering support to the APC and its candidates for the forthcoming November 11th elections.

Among the prominent defectors were Mr. Miebi Adeyn, the organizing secretary of PDP Ward 5 in Southern Ijaw; Miss Alami Philip, the PDP women coordinator for Ward 5; Retired Captain Philip Amabebe; Clapperton Ogbolowari; Omoni Sunday; and Chief Victor Bob. Other notable defectors included Pastor Morris Gbere, Chief Bomo Alaseigha, Felix Souton, and Tolu Ozato, among several others.
