JUST IN: Presidential, NASS Elections Will Not Hold As Scheduled? – NSC Makes Huge Revelation

The National Security Council (NSC) has expressed satisfaction with the overall level of security in the country, stating that the presidential and National Assembly elections will take place as planned in a secure environment.

The Council’s decision has finally put to rest fears and insinuations that the Federal Government might order a change in election dates.

There had been concerns, particularly among some political office holders, about the various unpleasant developments, including the recent intermittent violence and chaos in various parts of the country in response to the pressure mounted by the cash scarcity crisis.

However, in a report to State House Correspondents on the outcome of the Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, said the members expressed satisfaction with the situation and agreed that the elections are on track.

According to Malami, the meeting was fully briefed on the readiness of the Chief of Defence Staff, the three service chiefs, the IGP, and heads of other security agencies to provide the necessary security backup for Saturday’s election.

He stated that the Council gave the go-ahead for the February 25 election to go ahead as planned.

According to him, the meeting of the Council was a follow-up to earlier meetings of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the Council of States last week to confirm the readiness of the electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the police and security agencies to conduct the country’s general elections.
