JUST IN: Supreme Court Hears Case On CBN’s Naira Swap Policy
The Supreme Court of Nigeria is packed with Senior Advocates of Nigeria, other lawyers, and the governors of Kaduna and Kogi states for the hearing of the substantive suit on the Central Bank of Nigeria’s naira swap policy (CBN).
At the previous hearing, the Court temporarily halted the CBN’s February 10 deadline for making the old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes legal tender.
The suit was filed by the states of Zamfara, Kogi, and Kaduna against the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Other states, including Niger, Kano, Ondo, and Ekiti, have asked to be included in the lawsuit against the CBN and the Federal Government.
The proceedings began with Justice John Okoro presiding over a seven-member panel.
He stated that the court should not lose sight of the case and its intent because it affects the suffering of Nigerians.
Lagos State, through its Attorney General, Moyosore Onigbanjo, also applied to be included in the suit.
Bayelsa State, led by Damian Dodo, has also requested to be named as a respondent in the lawsuit. Similarly, Edo State requested to be added as a respondent.
