Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Thabang Stemmer has outlined the potential benefits Stanley Nwabali could bring to the Sea Robbers if they secure his signature this summer.

Pirates are reportedly among several clubs interested in signing Nwabali, who garnered attention for his standout performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. Clubs from Saudi Arabia including El-Ettifaq, as well as Queen Park Rangers and Kaizer Chiefs, are also in the race for the goalkeeper.

Stemmer, speaking to Kickoff, suggested that Pirates’ recent release of goalkeepers Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane indicates a move to strengthen the goalkeeping department with Nwabali.

“The reason Pirates released the two, I think it’s because they want to beef up with Stanley Nwabali,” Stemmer commented. “Even when I was still playing, Pirates always beefed up with top goalkeepers. All the big teams need top goalkeepers.”

He emphasized the importance of competition in a club like Pirates, known for its deep involvement in various competitions, stating, “If Nwabali comes, it would be a good thing for Pirates. We need competition.”
