The National Democratic Party (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has disclosed that political appointments under an NDC administration would be based primarily on competence and the needs of the country rather than personal relationships.

According to Ireporter Online, Kwankwaso made the disclosure while participating in the News Agency of Nigeria Personality Interview Series in Abuja on Sunday.

The former Kano State governor said an NDC government, if elected, would prioritise qualified individuals when selecting ministers and other officials to manage the country’s ministries, departments and agencies.

He explained that the administration would require a combination of technocrats, professionals and experienced politicians with the necessary knowledge and expertise to effectively handle different areas of government.

Kwankwaso said political power and appointments would be distributed according to the country’s needs, stressing that the President and Vice President could not successfully govern the nation without competent officials supporting them.

He further argued that specialised ministries should be headed by individuals with relevant professional backgrounds and practical experience capable of delivering results.

The NDC candidate also noted that being a technocrat does not necessarily mean being detached from politics, as many politicians possess strong professional qualifications and experience in specialised fields.

Kwankwaso promised that an NDC government would avoid unnecessary delays in forming its cabinet after taking office. He explained that elected officials have a limited period to fulfil their campaign promises and therefore must commence governance without wasting valuable time.

He maintained that the focus would be on assembling a capable team quickly and assigning responsibilities based on competence, experience and the demands of the country.
