Obasanjo Pays Surprise Visit To Adeleke After Osun Election Victory

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has paid a surprise congratulatory visit to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke following his victory in the state’s governorship election.

According to Ireporter Online, the former President visited Adeleke on Sunday, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission officially declared the incumbent governor the winner of the August 15, 2026, election.

Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes. The governor won by a margin of 66,252 votes.

The final result was announced on Sunday, August 16, after the collation of results from all 30 local government areas in the state. Adeleke secured victory in 19 LGAs, while Oyebamiji won 11.

Among the areas where Adeleke recorded victories were Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo.

The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third in the closely contested election.

Obasanjo’s visit came amid a wave of congratulatory messages from political leaders and other prominent Nigerians following Adeleke’s re-election.

The former President’s meeting with Adeleke was primarily to congratulate the governor on securing another four-year mandate and retaining control of Osun State after a competitive electoral contest.
