Lagos Introduces Psychiatric Testing And Prosecution For One-Way Traffic Offenders
The Lagos State Government has announced stringent measures to combat the menace of one-way traffic offenders, commonly known as “One-Way” drivers. Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, unveiled the new policy during the 2024 ministerial briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos…..READ ALSO Breaking: Dana Air Aircraft Skids Off Runway In Lagos (Photos)
Under the new directive, motorists caught driving against traffic will face psychiatric evaluation in addition to prosecution under Lagos State Traffic laws. Osiyemi emphasized the government’s determination to curb this dangerous behavior, which poses a significant risk to road safety.
Expressing concern over the proliferation of fraudulent individuals falsely claiming association with the Ministry of Transportation (MOT), Osiyemi provided hotlines for reporting such activities. These hotlines, 09020009000 and 09020004000, are intended to enable citizens to report fraudulent behavior and provide information on traffic conditions across the metropolis.
The announcement follows recent actions by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who personally supervised the arrest of some Okada riders operating against traffic along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Despite attempts by offenders to evade capture, the governor’s decisive action underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and ensuring road safety.
Notably, one of the apprehended offenders was identified as a lance corporal in the Army, highlighting the need for strict enforcement of the law regardless of the offender’s status or occupation. Governor Sanwo-Olu’s response sends a clear message that no one is above the law, and all offenders will be held accountable for their actions on Lagos roads.
