Latest Ranking Of Happiest Countries In The World Released, See Nigeria’s Position

The World Happiness Report’s latest edition, released on Wednesday, reveals that Nigeria is ranked as the 102nd happiest nation globally. Annually released to coincide with the International Day of Happiness designated by the United Nations and celebrated on March 20, the report surveyed 143 countries. According to the findings, Nigeria’s happiness ranking now stands at 102 out of the 143 countries assessed.

Finland retains its position as the world’s happiest country for the seventh consecutive year, leading the list. Other Nordic countries, including Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden, also maintained their spots among the top 10 happiest nations.

Interestingly, the United States and Germany, typically among the top 20 happiest nations, fell to 23rd and 24th place, respectively, for the first time in the report’s history.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan, facing significant humanitarian challenges since the Taliban regained control in 2020, remains at the bottom of the happiness index. Costa Rica and Kuwait entered the top 20 happiest countries, claiming the 12th and 13th positions, respectively.

Notably, the report highlights that the happiest countries no longer include any of the world’s largest nations. Among the top 10 countries, only the Netherlands and Australia have populations exceeding 15 million. Furthermore, in the top 20, only Canada and the UK have populations exceeding 30 million.

The report also observes significant fluctuations in happiness levels over time. Countries like Afghanistan, Lebanon, and Jordan experienced sharp declines in happiness, while Eastern European nations such as Serbia, Bulgaria, and Latvia reported notable increases.

The happiness ranking is determined based on individuals’ self-assessed evaluations of life satisfaction, in addition to factors like GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and corruption.
