President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had urged the House to extend the timeline for the implementation of the capital component of the 2023 budget from March 31, 2024, to June 30, 2024.
The President’s request was conveyed in a letter read on the House floor by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during the plenary session on Wednesday, March 20.
In the letter, President Tinubu also sought an extension of the implementation of the supplementary appropriation act from March 31, 2024, to June 30, 2024, to ensure full implementation of the provisions of both acts.
Following the reading of the president’s letter, the House swiftly passed the bill for first, second, and third readings.
The bill was moved for consideration by the House Chief Whip, Bello Kumo, who argued that the extension was necessary in the country’s interest to ensure the full implementation of the capital component of the budget.
Subsequently, after thorough deliberations, the bill was read the third time and passed by the green chamber.
