House Of Reps To Investigate Discrimination Against Nigerians By Abuja Chinese Supermarket

The House of Representatives has announced its intention to investigate a Chinese supermarket located in Abuja, amidst allegations that it discriminates against Nigerian shoppers. The committee urged Nigerians to remain calm and assured them of a thorough investigation into the matter. It emphasized the significance of the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the Republic of China and stressed the importance of mutual respect and cooperation between nations.

The statement highlighted the extensive collaboration between Nigeria and China across various sectors, including infrastructure development, trade, education, and healthcare. It also noted the positive impact of bilateral partnerships and cultural exchanges on enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.

The announcement of the investigation comes in response to public outcry following reports of Nigerians being denied entry into the Chinese supermarket. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council (FCCPC) had shut down the supermarket and summoned its owner over the discrimination allegations. However, the owner denied the accusations of discrimination.

The House of Representatives’ probe aims to address the reported discrimination and uphold the principles of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect between Nigeria and China.
