Kalu attributed the increased budget to the National Assembly, dismissing any involvement by Tinubu.

He explained that various expenses, such as those related to the census, were not accounted for in the initial budget.

He stated, “The President is not responsible for the upward adjustment of the budget to N28.2 trillion; it is the National Assembly, where I hold a prominent position in the Appropriation Committee.

The inclusion of expenses like the census, which were not initially covered in the budget, contributed to the increase.”

Kalu emphasized that the surge in figures resulted from inputs from the National Population Commission and other pertinent bodies during the budgetary process.

He clarified that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not informed about these changes, highlighting the diligent work undertaken within the National Assembly regarding the budget adjustments.
