Legacy In The Making: Olumide Akpata’s Background And Edo’s Tomorrow
In the dynamic arena of Edo State politics, one name is causing seismic ripples—Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata. Fondly known as Olu, this scion of the illustrious Akpata family is not merely a local figure; he’s a global phenomenon, setting an unparalleled standard.
Family Roots: Olu’s roots run deep in Edo State, and his family’s name is synonymous with distinction. Married to Osayamon Ogbebor May Michelle from the esteemed Ogbebor family, Olu is the son of Mr. Akpata and Mrs. Patience Oluwafunmilayo Akpata (Nee Obasahon), pillars of excellence in their own right.
Educational Odyssey: Olu’s academic journey commenced in Warri, Delta State, for primary schooling and continued at the esteemed Kings College in Lagos State for secondary education. A genuine Edo son, he graduated from the University of Benin in 1992.
Legal Luminary: Having been called to the bar on December 15, 1993, Olu embarked on a journey that would solidify his standing in the legal realm. His legal acumen was honed in Delta State under the tutelage of Dr. Mudiaga Odje, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. In 1996, Olu co-founded the law firm Templars in Lagos, marking a pivotal moment in his career.
Templars’ Maestro: As a senior partner and Head of the Corporate & Commercial Practice Group at Templars, Olu played a pivotal role in the firm’s growth. His expertise contributed to key ventures, including advising on the National Fertilizer Company acquisition, Google Street View deployment, and the merger between Access Bank and Diamond Bank.
Leadership and Aspiration: Olu’s leadership journey transcended the legal realm, serving as the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL). His zenith came when he was elected as the 30th President of the Nigerian Bar Association on July 30, 2020.
Gubernatorial Dreams: Beyond legal laurels, Olu Akpata aspires to the gubernatorial seat in Edo State, driven by a vision molded by his rich background. His leadership acumen, legal expertise, and profound roots in the state position him as a formidable candidate.
