According to local sources, Kuteyi accused Oladire of having an affair with his wife and aiding her in filing for divorce. Eyewitnesses recounted how the assailant unexpectedly attacked Oladire with a broken bottle, causing severe injuries before fleeing the scene.

Sympathetic bystanders intervened, rushing Oladire to the hospital due to the profuse bleeding from his wounds.

Oladire explained, “I assisted Kuteyi’s wife with legal matters involving a court order requiring them to pay compensation. After I clarified the court’s decision to both parties, his wife decided to withdraw the divorce proceedings upon intervention by Kuteyi’s family.”
