According to Ireporter Online, the Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday arraigned former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz Malami, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of terrorism financing, unlawful possession of firearms, and aiding acts of terrorism.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges presented by the Nigerian government. During proceedings before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, the prosecuting counsel, Dr. C.S. Eze, requested that Malami and his son be remanded in DSS custody pending trial.

Malami’s lawyer, S.A. Alua, SAN, sought bail orally, but the court declined the request, stating, “This is a court of record. We will only entertain a formal, written application for bail.” The case has been adjourned to February 20, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application and the commencement of the trial.

The charges brought against the former AGF and his son include allegations that Malami knowingly abetted terrorism financing by refusing to prosecute suspected financiers during his tenure, as well as possession of an unlicensed Sturm Magnum firearm and associated live and expended cartridges. Both defendants are accused of violating provisions under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and the Firearms Act, 2004, in five separate counts.
