Minister Of Niger Delta Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, Expresses Heartfelt Condolences To Victims Of Jattu Market Tragedy
In the wake of a devastating incident that struck Jattu Market in Edo North, Edo State, the Honorable Minister of Niger Delta Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE, has extended his deepest sympathies to the victims and their families. The severe rainstorm that battered the region resulted in the tragic loss of several lives, left many others injured, and caused significant damage to property.
“My heart is heavy with sorrow as I offer my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who perished in this horrific event,” said Engr. Momoh. “We mourn with you and share in your grief during this incredibly painful time. The loss of life is always a profound tragedy, and words cannot adequately express the depth of our sadness.”
As the storm intensified, market-goers sought refuge in the covered stalls of Jattu Market. The relentless downpour caused flooding, weakening the roots of several large trees. The trees eventually collapsed onto the stalls, transforming the market into a scene of chaos and destruction. The Minister expressed his shock and sorrow at the scale of the disaster, acknowledging the immense suffering it has caused.
“To those who have been injured, I extend my deepest wishes for your swift and complete recovery,” Engr. Momoh continued. “The physical and emotional pain you are enduring is unimaginable. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you. Additionally, I offer my sympathies to those who have lost their properties. The impact of such a loss is profound, and we stand with you as you navigate this difficult time and begin the process of rebuilding.”
Engr. Momoh emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent such tragedies in the future. “This incident serves as a stark reminder of the powerful forces of nature and the vulnerabilities within our communities,” he stated. “We must take immediate steps to address the structural and environmental safety concerns in our markets and public spaces. Our priority is to ensure that such a heartbreaking event never happens again.”
The Minister outlined plans to work closely with local authorities and community leaders to enhance disaster preparedness and implement measures to safeguard lives and properties. “We will conduct a thorough review of existing infrastructure and take necessary actions to improve safety standards. Our collective efforts will honor the memories of those we have lost by creating a safer and more resilient community.”
In closing, Engr. Momoh offered a message of unity and hope. “As we mourn this tragic loss, let us find strength in our unity and determination to improve the safety of our communities. Together, we can build a future where such tragedies are prevented, and our loved ones are protected. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may those affected find solace and strength in the days ahead.”
