Cukelu-Okafor stands accused of brutally abusing her 10-year-old house help in Onitsha North Local Government of Anambra State.

In a press conference held in Abuja on Monday, Minister Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized her commitment to intervening in issues concerning women and children across Nigeria. The incident, which involved the use of dangerous objects such as a broken bottle, knife, and electric iron, left the young maid covered in burns, as depicted in a distressing video circulating online.

Expressing her frustration with the lack of progress in resolving the matter, the Minister declared, “I am not going to listen anymore. I am going to wade into any issue that concerns women and children across this country.” Urging Nigerians to assist in locating Cukelu-Okafor, she announced the N2 million bounty and urged citizens to contact the police with any relevant information.

Kennedy-Ohanenye also pledged to address the broader issue of child labor as domestic workers, promising forthcoming actions and enforcement measures within a week. Encouraging whistleblowers to step forward, she emphasized the importance of citizen engagement in solving national challenges, particularly under a responsive administration.
