FEC Directs Ministers to Submit Project Lists, Prioritize Made-in-Nigeria Goods
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has ordered all cabinet ministers to submit detailed lists of projects under their respective agencies and parastatals to the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) for scrutiny, analysis, and onward transmission to the President.
According to iReporter Online, this directive was part of the Council’s Wednesday meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Minister of Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, while briefing journalists, explained that the directive followed a presentation by the Director-General of the BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun.
According to iReporter Online, Idris noted that many Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are still undertaking procurement for 2024 projects that should have concluded last December, despite an extension of the law to allow full implementation.
Adedokun stated that awards for these projects should be finalized by the end of September 2025 to prevent unnecessary liabilities.
“To give the President an overview of projects awarded by each Ministry, comprehensive lists from 2024 and 2025 fiscal years must be forwarded to the BPP for further consideration,” he said.
He also emphasized that, in line with the Nigeria First Policy, MDAs should prioritize Made-in-Nigeria goods and services that meet international standards and are certified by relevant authorities.
According to iReporter Online, the FEC also directed that Ministries use open competitive bidding for projects in the 2025 budget to enhance transparency, job creation, and poverty reduction.
The Council further instructed that government-owned companies comply fully with the Public Procurement Act to avoid financial recklessness, while the Ministry of Finance must ensure BPP’s inclusion in teams negotiating infrastructure loans to guarantee value for money.
