New Abia Commissioner Of Police Pledges To Restore Peace And Security

The new Commissioner of Police in Abia, Danladi Isa, on Wednesday, took over the State Command with a vision to ensure peace and security in Abia State while cautioning his officers and men to live up to expectations.

Isa, who is the 34th Commissioner of Police in Abia State Command, replaces Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, who was promoted to the rank of AIG, and posted to Police Zone 15, Maiduguri.

Isa said, “I arrived here with a clear mission: to ensure peace and security in Abia State, to foster collaboration with all stakeholders, and to promote a conducive environment where law and order prevail.

“My commitment to the people of Abia is unwavering, and I am determined to work diligently with all relevant partners, including other security agencies, community leaders, and the public, to achieve our shared goal of sustained peace and security.”

Under his leadership he said, the police in Abia will prioritise intelligence-led policing, stating that “this approach is crucial in tackling modern crime challenges, as it allows us to stay one step ahead by preventing crimes before they occur.

“By gathering, analyzing, and acting on timely and relevant information, we can be more proactive and responsive in dealing with criminal activities.”

He added, “Equally important to our strategy is community partnership. I strongly believe that the police cannot function effectively without the support and cooperation of the community we serve.

“I will actively encourage community members to engage with the police, share information, and collaborate with us in ensuring the safety of our neighbourhoods. Together, we can create a safer environment for all.”

The new Commissioner of Police emphasised the importance of upholding the highest standards of professionalism, fairness, and impartiality in all interactions with the public.

He stressed that his officers must maintain civility, ensure justice for everyone regardless of status or background, and apply the law firmly but fairly without discrimination or favouritism.

“Our officers will be approachable, friendly, and accessible to the public. Building trust between the police and the community is one of my top priorities, and we will work hard to earn that trust through openness and transparency in our actions.

“As part of our proactive policing strategy, I will emphasize visibility policing – ensuring that the presence of the police is felt throughout the state. Our officers will be deployed across Abia to enhance security and deter criminal activity,” he stated.

The AIG remarked, “I walked in as CP and walked out as AIG,” expressing his hope that Isa would follow the same path.

Onwuemelie also praised the state’s governor, Alex Otti, for his support in crime prevention efforts and encouraged the officers and personnel of the command to ensure Isa’s success in achieving progress rather than regression.
