A statement by the Nigerian Army on its official X handle (formerly Twitter) detailed that troops intercepted the terrorists on May 24, 2024, acting on credible intelligence regarding their movement in Giwa and Birnin Gwari local government areas (LGA) of Kaduna State.

According to the statement, troops ambushed the terrorists at Kidandan Junction in Giwa LGA. Following a fierce firefight, the terrorists fled, abandoning a pistol. The troops subsequently cleared Basurfe and Yuna villages, recovering a motorbike left by the escaping terrorists who had crossed a nearby river valley.

Pursuing the terrorists to Katoge village, a known terrorist enclave and crossing point, troops eliminated a terrorist scout and recovered a semi-automatic pump-action rifle. The operation culminated in Saulawa village in Birnin Gwari LGA, where troops encountered several terrorists on motorbikes. A ferocious exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the elimination of five more terrorists.

The troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle, and nine motorbikes during the encounter.
