Army Recruitment Now Focused Solely On Candidate Competence, Reveals Lt Gen LagbajaThe Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taofeek Lagbaja, emphasized that the Army’s recruitment process prioritizes the competence of candidates.

Speaking in Asaba, he dismissed the idea that having influential connections or godfathers is necessary for joining the armed forces. Brigadier General Witto Nzidee, representing Lagbaja, urged young individuals aged 18 to 22 in Delta State to engage in the current Army recruitment exercise to fill the state’s allocated quota.

“The registration is now conducted online, and the portal is open. Interested candidates should visit the site, register, and I assure you that anyone deemed fit will be recruited into the army,” Nzidee stated. He further highlighted, “The belief that you need to have connections to join the army is incorrect. I rose to the rank of Brigadier General without knowing anyone in the system.”

Nzidee noted that certain states in the Southeast and South-South regions failed to meet their recruitment quotas during previous exercises, prompting a campaign to encourage young people in Delta State to participate in the 88th regular recruitment of the Nigerian Army. He stressed the importance of raising awareness among the state government and the citizens of Delta, reminding them that if they do not utilize their recruitment quota, other states will.

“You can’t blame these young people for their lack of awareness, which is why we’re here to inform them and encourage the best among them to join us in the progress and development of Delta State and Nigeria as a whole,” he added.

Additionally, Brigadier General Unachukwu Ugochukwu, Commander of the 63 Brigade Asaba, called on qualified youths in the state to seize this opportunity for gainful employment while reiterating that Delta State had previously failed to meet its recruitment quota.
